Installation Instructions for CCStudio v3.x and the
Spectrum Digital XDS560R USB JTAG Emulator

This page is a guide to installing the Spectrum Digital XDS560R USB emulator for use with Code Composer Studio version 3.x. These instructions assume that you have already installed CCStudio in the default directory of:

NOTE: If you have chosen to install CCStudio in a different location you must manually adjust each step below to match your actual install path.

XDS560R USB JTAG Emulator

CCStudio SR12 Advisory
CCStudio SR12 made a major change to the USCIF component which is NOT backward compatible to previous CCS SR releases. If you have updated to CCS SR12 then you must also update your emulation driver to release 3.3.30 or higher. If you have NOT updated to SR12 they you need to use release 3.03.29A.

Step 1 - Download & Install Emulation Drivers
There is an install package for each version of CCStudio with the appropriate configurations and gel files for the installed CCstudio version. Download the appropriate driver package, then un-zip the package and install the driver.

Step 2 - Connect your Emulator to your PC
For XDS5560R USB JTAG Emulator
  1. Connect the XDS560R USB JTAG emulator to your PC through a USB cable. After a few seconds delay led 0 will blink and led 3-1 should sequence, the PWR led should be on.
  2. For first time use of the XDS560R USB JTAG emulator, windows will perform a new Hardware routine. Select the Install from a specific location option.
  3. Then select "Search for the best driver" option
  4. Browse to include C:\CCStudio_v3.2\specdig\xds510usb\ subdirectory of your CCStudio installation. Spectrum Digital stores all emulator and dsk USB system drivers in the "specdig\xds510usb" subdirectory of your CCStudio install.

New Hardware Wizard

Note: When using emulation tools ( i.e. XDS560 emulator, ... ) with the DaVinci EVM, you must first set switch S3 to not boot from U-boot. Follow these instuctions to disable U-boot and allow for emulation.

Step 3 - Automatic CCStudio v3.2 Configuration
At this point, you need to configure CCStudio to recognize your emulator and your target board.
  1. Launch the desktop icon "Setup CCStudio v3.2".
  2. Press the Remove All button to clean up the System Configuration pane.
  3. Choose an Available Configurations option that best suits your own setup.
  4. Press the << Add button to add that configuration.
  5. Save your settings ( File -> Save ).
  6. Exit out of CCStudio Setup and start CCStudio v3.2.
