Installation Instructions for CCStudio v4.x and the
Spectrum Digital XDS510/XDS560v2 JTAG Emulator

Overview
This page is a guide to installing the Spectrum Digital XDS510 USB JTAG emulator -or- XDS510 PP+ JTAG emulator for use with Code Composer Studio version 4.x ( aka. CCStudio v4.x ). These instructions assume that you have already installed CCStudio in the default directory of:
 C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\CCSv4

NOTE: If you have chosen to install CCStudio in a different location you must manually adjust each step below to match your actual install path.

Step 1 - Install Emulation Drivers
All Spectrum Digital JTAG emulation drivers and CCStudio target configurations for the CCStudio v4.x platform are included with the Code Composer Studion software installation. The default installation directory for CCStudio v4 is C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\CC Studio v4. It is not necessary to run a separate Spectrum Digital emulation driver installation as was needed for prior versions of CCStudio.

Code Composer Studio v4 will automatically search for Spectrum Digital driver and target configuration updates.

The CCS 4.x Emulation Driver Release Notes may be found in the CCS installation directory (shown above) in the following path:
  C:\....\emulation\specdig\ReleaseNotes.txt

XDS510/XDS560v2 USB JTAG Emulators:
  1. Connect the XDS510/XDS560v2 USB JTAG emulator to your PC through a USB cable and apply power to XDS560v2.
  2. For first time use of the XDS510\XDS560V2 USB JTAG emulator, Windows will perform a new hardware install routine. The USB drivers were pre-installed so let Windows find and install..
  3. Click 'Next', and the installation will complete itself.
For XDS510 PP+ JTAG Emulator
  1. Connect the XDS510 PP+ JTAG emulator to your PC through the included parallel cable.
  2. Connect the included +5V power suppy to the emulator.
  3. The following steps below require that the parallel port I/O address on your PC be at 0x378. In the Software guide, go to the PC I/O Port section to figure out what your parallel port I/O address is and if it needs to be changed.

Note: When using emulation tools ( i.e. XDS510, XDS560 emulator, ... ) with the DaVinci EVM, you must first set switch S3 to not boot from U-boot. Follow these instuctions to disable U-boot and allow for emulation.

Step 3 - Automatic CCStudio v4.x Configuration
At this point, you need to configure CCStudio to recognize your emulator and your target board.
  1. Launch the desktop icon "Setup CCStudio v4.x".
  2. Click the 'File' menu, then select "New-->Target Configuration File"
  3. Enter a file name that describes the emulator connection and/or Texas Instruments device being used and click "Finish".
  4. Select the correct Spectrum Digital emulator/emulation connection from the "connection" menu and select the Target device that will be targeted from the "Device" menu.
  5. Click the 'save' button to save the configuration
  6. Click the "View" menu and select "Target Configurations" to expose the configuration(s) that have been built or imported. A new tab labeled 'Target Configurations' will become available in the CCS window. Expand the 'User Defined' folder and right-click on the configuration that has been created and click "Launch Selected Configuration".
  7. CCS will now attempt to connect through the emulator to the target board.
